Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from American R&B and soul music singer Jazmine Sullivan's sophomore album. The song was produced by Cainon Lamb and Missy Elliott and leaked to the Internet on June 29. Missy Elliott has acted as a mentor for Sullivan throughout her career and previously produced the singer's debut single, "I Need U Bad" along with Lamb.
  • The song samples Slick Rick's "La Di Da Di," Nas' "Affirmative Action" and "I Can," as well as elements from Pete Rock and Mary J. Blige's catalogues.
  • The song describes a female reflecting on her choice to remain in an unhealthy relationship. Sullivan explained to Billboard magazine that although she's much happier now she penned the song as, "there is struggle in every relationship, and I take a very realistic approach to my music."
