Songfacts®:

  • "Falling Or Flying" is about the uncertainty of a new romance. Jorja Smith is waiting for a sign from her love interest to show that they are serious about the relationship. She's also not sure of how to proceed, as she doesn't want to get hurt.

I don't know where you are, but I don't wanna go to sleep, babe
I know you care, but please, don't take it easy on me, babe
    Ooh-ooh, hey
I could be fallin', flyin', I wouldn't know the difference

Jorja Smith is frustrated and confused. She is tired of waiting for the guy to make a move and starting to wonder if their union is even worth it. She is also afraid of getting hurt, but knows she can't keep living in limbo.
  • Smith wrote "Falling Or Flying" with producers Marco Bernardis, P2J and Dame Dame. "That song started out completely different with me and DameDame and the producers," Smith told Apple Music. "It's the first song we actually ever started together but it didn't have the chorus before and it also started on the intro, and we moved everything over and did all sorts to it, and then we got this chorus."
  • Marco Bernardis is a producer and musician from London. His credits include Jack Harlow's "Side Piece" and J Hus' "Massacre."

Nigerian-British producer P2J's resumé also includes Dave's "Titanium," Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl" and J Hus' featuring Drake's "Who Told You."

DameDame are a production duo comprising Edith Nelson and Barbara Boko. They come from Smith's home city of Walsall.
  • "Falling Or Flying" is the title track of Smith's second album. She said, "The song has nothing to do with the album title. It's just called that."
  • Smith made the bulk of Falling Or Flying with Nelson and Boko, including the hit single "Little Things."
