Songfacts®:

  • Riding the smooth waves of an Afrobeats rhythm, J Hus and Drake spit fiery bars about that electric moment when boys and girls lock eyes in the club. Hus unleashed this banger as the second single from Beautiful And Brutal Yard on June 8, 2023.
  • Gangstas aren't necessarily cold-hearted and emotionless, that's just a stereotype. Even if you're a hardcore rapper, you can't just be chilling in the corner. J Hus breaks this truth down in the chorus.

Who the hell said bad boys don't dance?
Who said gangstas can't bust a move?
Even with a wap strapped to my side, I still get my groove on.
Bad boys, take another sip and get down.
Even if you got two left feet, don't trip, just dance!

Hus shows us he's a thug with mad energy and personality. Just like he tells his crew to let loose, he warns fools it doesn't mean he's soft. Step too close and he'll throw down, no doubt.
  • In the first verse, J Hus spots a girl whose ample attributes matches his own, if you catch our drift.

Never seen you before, where you come from?
You got a fat pum-pum, I got a long Johnson
I know I never met you at random
This must be destiny, that's why you're next to me

As the girl's body complements his own, Hus figures they're fated to hook up.
  • Drake jumps in for the second verse where he shouts out British multimedia artist Lilah Pi, who appears on the cover of his 2023 single "Search & Rescue."

So Lilah Pi, don't make my eye cry
Let me hold your controlla, I am not one of these controlling guys
I want you to touch road with the girls-dem, and socialize

Drake makes it clear he's not the type to control her mind and prevent her from having fun with her crew. Drizzy's 2016 Views track "Controlla" has a similar theme.

"Who Told You" dropped on Lilah's 25th birthday. Drake celebrated by taking to his Instagram Stories to wish Lilah a happy birthday. "More life to the gyal that's impossible to duplicate," he wrote. "My inspo, my confidant, my best mate, my heart."

Naturally, rumors started flying, and if they're an item the track suggests Drake won't hold her back from chilling with her friends.
  • In his next lines, Drake adds more fuel to the rumor mill that something is going on between him and Liliah.

Enjoy your life, your backside is so fit, it opens eyes
I know the vibes, I know the vibes
Just 'cause I'm not jealous doesn't mean I don't care, that's just not fair
I knew you were trouble, I was unprepared
If I were married, this might turn a scandalous affair

Drake also shouted Liliah out on his 2022 Honestly Nevermind track "Flight's Booked."

    Lilah
    I know it's getting late
And I'm struggling to let go
    Although there's distance between us
There's no place I'd rather be
  • In his final verse, Hus flexes he's got girls lined up, and they aren't limited by their social status.

All the ratchet gyals wan' pattern up
All the posh gyals get ratchet for me
If you love me, you're clappin' for me
If you throw it, I catch it, trust me

Those hood girls, ratchet and all, try to use him to level up their cash flow. Meanwhile, the posh girls try to grab his attention by turning into straight-up ghetto divas.
  • Drake has shown major love for J Hus since bringing him on stage at London's O2 Arena in April 2019. The UK rapper had been released from jail the same day after serving time for knife possession charges. Since then, the two have been teasing a collaboration.
  • Nigerian-British producer P2J created the bubbly Afrobeats instrumentation. P2J's resumé also includes productions for UK rappers (Stormzy's "Bad Boys," Dave's "Titanium"); Nigerian singer-songwriters (Wizkid's "Essence," Burna Boy's "For My Hand"); and even an American superstar (Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl," "Move").
