Songfacts®:

  • Kane Brown was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and raised in the northwest Georgia cities of Rossville, Fort Oglethorpe and LaFayette. Eventually, his family settled in Red Bank, Tennessee. This stomping ode is a salute to his southern roots.
  • Penned by Brown with Josh Hoge, Matt McGinn and Jordan Schmidt, "Bury Me in Georgia" amounts to certified instructions to the singer's kin and buds. He gives instructions for his funeral:

I don't care what color my suit is
Or what shoes y'all put on my feet
I don't care how many show up, yeah
    Or who reads my eulogy

Brown wants to be put in the Georgia clay after he's breathed his last breath.

    Bury me in Georgia
    Let me rest in peace
    Underneath the pines
    Where my roots run deep
  • Dan Huff produced the song and played the synthesizer and electric guitar.
    The other musicians are:

    Ilya Toshinskiy: banjo
    Lars Thorson: fiddle
    Aaron Sterling: percussion, drums
    Jimmie Lee Sloas: bass
Charlie Judge: strings, organ, chimes, synthesizer
    Derek Wells: electric guitar
  • "Bury Me in Georgia" is the opening track and fifth single on Different Man. Kane Brown has previously surprised fans with cross-genre collaborations, including hook-ups with EDM producer Marshmello ("One Thing Right"), rapper Swae Lee ("Be Like That") and Latin-pop singer Becky G ("Lost in the Middle of Nowhere"). This guitar-heavy stomper with its instrumental solos and heavy vocal distortion is grittier than anything the country star has previously used to promote a record.
  • Brown bookends Different Man with odes to his Georgia roots. He opens the project with "Bury Me in Georgia" and closes it with "Dear Georgia."
