  • Closer to the Bone marks some of the final recordings of Kristofferson's friend Stephen Bruton, who passed away in May 2009. Bruton played guitar and co-wrote this track and the album is dedicated to the late guitarist. Kristofferson told Billboard magazine: "I can't think of Stephen without heartbreak. We were soul brothers. I'm just grateful that he was able to play on this."
