Songfacts®:

  • Don't be fooled by the title, "A Love Song" isn't your classic heartwarming tale. Instead, this tune draws inspiration from the timeless qualities of love songs to underscore the stark differences in the protagonists' own love story. No aisle-walking, no fairy-tale endings, and no hope for a resurrection. With aching hearts, Lady A lead vocalists Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley yearn for a romantic relationship that endures, one worthy of serenades and lasting memories.
  • Hillary Scott and her Lady A bandmate Dave Haywood wrote the melancholic song with Allison Veltz Cruz (Jason Aldean's "Let Your Boys Be Country," Tenille Arts' "Give It to Me Straight") and Sam Ellis (Lady A's "What If I Never Get Over You," "What I'm Leaving For" and "What A Song Can Do").

"Sad songs always seem to be the ones that move me deeply," said Scott. "When we sat down to write this song we really decided to brave the deep of telling a story of a couple at the place in their relationship where they are realizing this might not be a forever love. It's a heartbreaking story but one I think many will relate to."
  • Dann Huff's production channels the warmth and nostalgia of the group's early years. Lady A's three-part harmonies have always been one of the trio's most distinctive features, and Huff gives them plenty of room to shine on "Love Song."
  • Lady A first performed "Love Song" during their 2023 Request Line Tour. They released it as a single on October 27, 2023.
