Songfacts®:

  • Here, Lil Baby questions the nature of the girls he hooks up with. "I'm tired of these strippers," he raps, "I'm going at nurses and doctors and dentists."
  • The chorus is all about Baby's messed-up love life. He knows he's been acting shady and it's pushing his girl away.

She tryna leave me, I'm low down

Plus, he runs with a wild crew that aren't to be messed with.

I hang with savages, don't bring your ho 'round

    Baby's changing his ways, though.

I'm going bougie, I'm switchin' my profile

When Baby says he's "low down," it's like he knows he's been doing dirt and his girl's had enough. And when he warns others not to bring their girls around, it's because his squad can be dangerous and disrespectful.
  • Atlanta producer Quay Global provided the instrumental for the track. He's worked with Baby since the rapper's 2017 debut single, "My Dawg."
  • Baby first previewed "Low Down" on Instagram Live on March 17, 2020. He included it as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of his 2020 My Turn album and it debuted at #81 on the Hot 100 during the week of May 16, 2020. The RIAA certified it as Platinum on February 28, 2022.
  • The Kansas State men's basketball team used "Low Down" as their pump-up anthem during the 2022-2023 season. They played the song in the locker room before games and during timeouts, and the team even danced to it on the court after wins.

The song became popular with fans, and they often chanted the lyrics during games. "Low Down" helped the Wildcats to a successful season, as they reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
  • When Kansas State was competing in the NCAA tournament, TikTok users picked up on the team's connection to "Low Down" and started sharing dozens of clap-along videos. This helped boost the track's popularity, and it started climbing up the streaming charts. The song returned to the Hot 100, this time entering the chart at #50.
