Songfacts®:

  • Luke Bryan flexes his country cred in "Country Man," explaining everything he can do that some city boy can't. Among his talents:

    Growing his own food
    Salt curing ham
    hot-wiring a tractor

And most importantly, he can keep the lady warm with his big strong arms when she joins him in the hayloft.
  • Many of Bryan's songs are an expression of his upbringing. He really did grow up on a farm - a peanut farm his parents owned in Georgia - and as we learn in another song from his I'll Stay Me album, he rode around in trucks. These songs connected with a huge audience, helping Bryan quickly rise to the top and become one of the most popular country singers of the 2010s.
  • This was Bryan's third single, following "All My Friends Say" and "We Rode In Trucks." All three songs were from his first album, I'll Stay Me, a triumphant debut that set the stage for his ascent. By 2013 he was a headline act.
  • Bryan used many different co-writers on his I'll Stay Me album. "Country Man" he wrote with Galen Griffin and Patrick Jason Matthews. Griffin also worked on the Clay Walker song "She Won't Be Lonely Long"; Matthews' cowrites include "Happy To Be Here" by Trace Adkins and several more Luke Bryan songs, including "Cold Beer Drinker" and "Like We Ain't Ever."
  • Luke Bryan directed the video himself. He cast his buddies and his crew, who join him in various adventures on the road. Dierks Bentley also makes an appearance.

It was shot at tour stops in Kent, Ohio; Columbia, South Carolina; and Muskegon, Michigan, where they enlisted the services of a pig named Squigley Nelson, who came from a local petting zoo.
