Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Luke Combs smitten by his lover's charming idiosyncrasies.

Beautiful, crazy, she can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances, ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah, she's crazy, but her crazy's beautiful to me

It's those individual quirks that make him love his lady even more.
  • Combs originally wrote "Beautiful Crazy" with Wyatt B. Durrette III and Robert Williford in 2016. After he penned it, the singer posted on Facebook a video shot on an iPhone showing him performing the song acoustically. The visual racked up several million views and the tune quickly became a staple in his concerts.
  • A studio version of the track was included as a bonus track on Combs' This One's for You Too album. Despite not being released as a single at the time, it climbed to #58 on the Hot 100 through downloads and streaming. The song was officially sent to radio on December 3, 2018.
  • When this song climbed to #1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart dated March 2, 2019, Combs became the first artist to send his or her first five singles to the top of the tally since it first launched back in January of 1990. His previous four #1s were "Hurricane," "When It Rains It Pours," "One Number Away" and "She Got the Best of Me."
  • Luke Combs wrote this about his partner Nicole Hocking before they'd officially started dating. He said the song earned him some "serious brownie points."
  • This was named Song of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. A surprised Combs thanked "my beautiful fiancée, for being the inspiration behind this song." The singer also took home the Male Artist of the Year trophy.
  • Luke Combs recalled to Billboard the "no-fail situation" when he sang "Beautiful Crazy" to Nicole for the first time. "I wrote it two days before I played it for her, and I made sure that one of her friends was there while I played it for her so her friend would be like, 'Aw, so nice' and everything," he shared, adding, "Luckily, that worked out and here we are."
