Mack Geiger is an Australian country singer-songwriter whose red-dirt upbringing and love of '90s country gives his songs a genuine, lived-in feel. Raised on cattle stations in Central Queensland, he turned years of long drives, barroom cover gigs and hard work into a neo-traditional sound built for heartbreak, honky-tonks, and wide-open roads.
Geiger grew up in a cattle-raising family in Mount Larcom, Central Queensland, where his daily school commute took an hour each way and Brisbane was seven hours down the road. His father taught him his first four chords on acoustic guitar; country music soundtracked the family's endless road trips in an eight-seater van.
As the oldest of five kids, his parents had a simple rule for keeping peace in the van: "If we weren't singing, we were probably fighting." The radio and CD player were kept loud, giving him a front-row education in the country classics that shaped his style.
His father's CD collection was his main playbook. Speaking to RFD-TV at CMA Fest, Geiger called '90s country his "bread and butter," pointing to Brooks & Dunn, Travis Tritt, and Alan Jackson as his biggest influences. As a preschooler, he even showed up to a school event dressed as Jackson, complete with a cowboy hat, blonde wig, and stick-on mustache.
Before making waves nationally, Geiger cut his teeth in high school busking contests, local talent shows, and the Gympie Music Muster. After finishing school, Geiger worked on a remote cattle station while playing marathon bar gigs that could run for six hours, an experience that taught him how to hold a room.
His songwriting speaks directly to working-class life. "Country music for people in regional Queensland is telling our story," Geiger told Countrytown, adding that staying true to his roots matters far more than crafting an image. "The audience is a lot smarter than we think. They can tell if someone is putting on a bit of a mask or a false get-up." For Geiger, authenticity is just how you live in rural Australia.
"String By" ended up being his ticket to the US. Released in late 2025, the track broke into Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and climbed the Global Country Shazam chart. By August 2026, it had racked up over 70 million global streams and gave Geiger his first Hot 100 entry.
