  • "'Something New' is a good example of what a core Mammoth sound is," Wolfgang Van Halen said on the Songfacts Podcast. It's the midpoint on the spectrum between Mammoth's softer, more introspective material and their heavier, more progressive-driven tracks.

As for the lyric, Wolf kept it ambiguous, but it seems to be about progress and personal growth. Keep your mind open and you might discover something new you never knew you needed.
  • The song appears on The End, Mammoth's third album, released October 24, 2025. Wolfgang Van Halen is a one-man band in the studio, playing every instrument and laying down all the vocals. His main collaborator for his recordings is his producer, Michael "Elvis" Baskette.
  • The album was recorded using a new, more spontaneous process. Rather than demoing on a laptop, Wolfgang moved directly between instruments in the studio. "I would ask my engineer to set the tempo on the click and then I would just play guitar to it, and then I'd run right out and play drums to that, and then I'd come back into the control room and play bass to that," he told Music Life Magazine. "It was a really fun environment."
