  • "Heaven Down Here" is a plaintive plea for some divine intervention during challenging times. Guyton wrote the track during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in her apartment during quarantine after watching the protests outside.

"It is a song asking God to spare a little love for this world in need," said Guyton. "This song came from the very depths of my heart and has given me a renewed sense of self. It has real raw emotion and was written with a therapeutic intent of healing my heart."
  • Guyton teamed up with Josh Kear, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson over Zoom to craft this emotionally charged anthem. Fueled by the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, she poured her empathy into the lyrics.

Despite her sensitive state, Guyton found strength from her co-writers. "I didn't even want to write that day because I was so emotional. But looking at these sweet faces taking the time to write with me, I just started sobbing," she shared with Apple Music. As a Black woman in country music, Guyton didn't feel like she mattered.

The quartet aimed to create a song that wasn't just devastating but also something people could hear and receive. "We were like, 'What if we're asking God, 'If you're listening, if you hear anything we're saying, can you help us out?'"
  • Guided by her regular producer Karen Kosowski, Guyton recorded "Heaven Down Here" for her Bridges EP. As a vocal advocate for change, she drew inspiration from the Black Lives Matter protests, shaping her music to reflect her experiences. "What Are You Gonna Tell Her?" opens eyes to discrimination, while "Black Like Me," written in 2019, gained relevance with the killing of George Floyd.
  • Directed by Sarah McColgan, the "Heaven Down Here" music video is a poignant mirror reflecting the world's struggles, delivering a heartfelt plea for peace and unity. The visual narrative weaves somber scenes of empty classrooms, battered homes, and healthcare workers clad in PPE with uplifting imagery: a young girl joyfully running and majestic horses gracefully galloping through the ocean. These are interspersed with shots of Guyton performing against a vibrant blue backdrop, donned in a flowing white gown.

"I want fans to feel seen and to feel hope after watching this music video," Guyton said in a behind-the-scenes clip. "Without question, we are all going through so much right now, and I hope people feel peace and love, and feel like they can come together. I hope that's what they take out of this music video."
  • "Heaven Down Here" inspired a 2023 Hallmark Christmas movie of the same name. The film takes place in a diner in which four people are trapped inside on Christmas Eve when a snowstorm hits town. Guyton served as an executive producer for the movie.
