Songfacts®:

  • "Wranglers" is a fiery anthem about the aftermath of a painful breakup. Miranda Lambert takes aim at a two-timing no-good lover who never measured up. The lyrics sting like a honky-tonk kiss gone wrong. Seems this fella never showed his hand, leaving Lambert wondering if his love ever existed at all.

But this heartbreak isn't going to break her. She's finally taking a stand- no longer will she wait around for the dude to change his ways.
  • She set it all on fire, and if there's one thing that she learned
    Wranglers take forever to burn

Wranglers are a brand of jeans, a staple in cowboy culture and often associated with strength and resilience. They are made of denim, which are tough as nails and take a long time to burn completely. Lambert uses them to paint a picture of her own resilience. The world around her might be going up in flames , but she's standing tall, her heart aching but unbroken, just like her Wranglers.
  • Lambert didn't write the song – it was penned by Audra Mae, Evan McKeever, and Ryan Carpenter. However, it echoes the crazy firecracker vibe of many of Lambert's early songs such as "Gunpowder & Lead," "Time to Get a Gun" and "Sin for a Sin."

"'Wranglers' is a classic tale of a woman taking her power back," Lambert said. "I think we can all identify with the character in this song, because we have all had a time in our life where we needed to find our strength, and also get a little revenge on someone who did us wrong or hurt us. This offers such a cool, raging take on how something like this unravels. I think the songwriters nailed it."

She added, "'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' is a pretty powerful statement, and the way it's written, you can tell, we're not kidding."
  • Lambert recorded "Wranglers" in Austin with co-producer Jon Randall. Co-writer Audra Mae also sang background vocals.
  • Miranda Lambert left Sony Music Nashville after 19 years in March 2023. The country superstar signed to Republic Records just over a year later and released this song as the first single with the label on May 3, 2024.
  • Lambert debuted "Wranglers" during her headlining set at the 2024 Stagecoach Festival in California on April 27, 2024.
  • The video is a fiery takedown fueled by revenge and girl power, matching the energy of the song. Filmed outside Austin, Texas, it shows Lambert and her friends in a badass mood. They're all sporting their own denim looks, with Lambert rocking a pair that isn't about to be set ablaze (unlike her ex's).

Lambert's childhood best friend Laci Skelton makes an appearance, adding a layer of camaraderie to the fiery act of revenge. The clip also co-stars actresses Elle Lamont (who previously appeared in the music video for "If I Was A Cowboy"), Jessica Stroup and actor Christopher Backus.

There's a special touch for longtime fans: The gas can used to ignite the flames is a replica of the one Lambert used in her breakthrough hit "Kerosene" in 2005. The matchbook is the same one Lambert used in that original shoot.
