Songfacts®:

  • "Speed" is about getting over a girl who just left. It uses the imagery of getting inside a fast car and driving it away until her memory fades.
  • The song was written by Jeffrey Steele and Chris Wallin, who also teamed on Montgomery Gentry's "Something To Be Proud Of" and Trace Adkins' "I'm Tryin'." Steele is also a writer on the Rascal Flatts hit "What Hurts The Most."
  • The arrangement is very string-heavy, with mandolin by Doug Powell; banjo by Darrell Scott; dobro, acoustic and electric guitars by Dan Dugmore; and electric guitar by Al Anderson. Producer Blake Chancey pulled it all together.
  • The music video stars Marisa Petroro as the heartbreaker the guy is trying to escape. She later showed up as a model on the game show Deal Or No Deal.
