Songfacts®:

  • This is a rare non-judgmental rock song that explains what it's like to be hooked on booze, painkillers and drugs - Dr. Ozzy was an expert on the experience.
  • It's long been rumored that "A.V.H." is an acronym for Alcohol, Valium and Hashish, but Ozzy's official site claims it stands for Aston Villa Highway, a reference to Ozzy's favorite team, the Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham, England.
  • Ozzy wrote this song with his guitarist, Zakk Wylde, and drummer, Randy Castillo. It was included on his No More Tears album in 1991, continuing a remarkable run for Osbourne that started with Black Sabbath in the '60s. After getting booted from the band in 1979, he launched a solo career that blew away expectations.
