"Girl In Mine" is a breezy song of romantic love and commitment where Parmalee lead singer Matt Thomas highlights his devotion to his new flame. There are billions of girls in the world, but he adores his sweetheart so much, she's the only one for him.
Matt Thomas wrote "Girl In Mine" alongside songwriters Ashley Gorley, Casey Brown, Travis Wood and the track's producer, David Fanning. Gorley and Fanning also collaborated with Thomas on Parmalee's 2021 hit single "Take My Name."
Parmalee released "Girl In Mine" as their follow-up single to "Take My Name" on August 12, 2022. Such was their enthusiasm for the track, they dropped it not long after penning it. "We wrote it not long ago and we started playing it on the bus and everybody's just like 'man, it's gotta be next. We gotta go with this,'" Thomas told Taste Of Country Nights. "We connected with fans on this thing and this just seemed like the right way to go with this new song."
"Girl In Mine" is right in Parmalee's wheelhouse, adding to their collection of love songs. It explores themes of love and dedication like in "Just The Way" and commitment similarly to "Take My Name."
The third verse of "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by Crash Test Dummies ("they shook and lurched all over the church floor...") was inspired by girl whose parents would speak in tongues at their Pentecostal service.
