Songfacts®:

  • In "Careless Whisper," George Michael sang, "I'm never gonna dance again." Here, Pink turns the Wham! singer's proclamation into a double negative.
  • While George Michael croons of his guilty feelings about cheating on his girlfriend, Pink sings about how nothing will stop her from dancing to her records. The universe can take away everything she loves (food, liquor, her dog, her soul) but not even the imminent end of the world will prevent her from boogying. Press materials describe the nu-disco track as a "euphoric and joyful ode to dancing through the hard times."
  • This is far from the first song with a double negative in the title. Other examples include:

"You Haven't Done Nothin'" by Stevie Wonder

"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Diana Ross

"Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers

"There Ain't Nothin' Wrong With The Radio" by Aaron Tippin

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones

"(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" by Blues Magoos

"Don't Ask Me No Questions" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
  • Pink co-wrote "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" with the Swedish hitmaker Max Martin and his regular production partner Shellback. Martin's collaborations with the American singer date back to 2006 when he co-penned her hit singles "Who Knew" and "U And Ur Hand."
  • Pink co-directed the music video with the creative duo Nick Florez and RJ Durell. Set in a grocery store, the playful visual finds the singer dancing and skating through the aisles, joined by a colorful cast of characters.

Florez and Durell previously choreographed the dance routines for Pink's "What About Us" clip.
  • Pink opened the 2022 American Music Awards with a roller disco bang, skating into Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater and through the crowd, onto the stage, where a dozen dancers on skates joined the singer and her band. Pink then delivered "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" complete with a conga line and rainbow-colored neon lights.

Pink's past performances at the AMA include a gravity-defying display at the 2017 award show, where she delivered "Beautiful Trauma" while suspended by high wire along the side of a skyscraper.
  • "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" was Pink's reaction to adrenal fatigue, cortisol, and stress. "It was like, "F–k this," she told Billboard. "If the world's ending and we're sliding sideways off our axis, I'm gonna get my roller skates. Let's take a cocktail class online! What are we doing?"
  • Pink's daughter Willow and son Jameson both provide backing vocals on "Never Gonna Not Dance Again."
