Songfacts®:

  • A trust fall involves one person standing on a platform and then falling backward, relying on their team or partners to catch them and prevent them from falling. The purpose of a trust fall is to build trust and communication between the participants, and to encourage individuals to step out of their comfort zones and rely on others. Trust falls are common practice in team-building exercises and are used in a variety of settings, including corporate training programs, retreats, and therapy sessions.

Over a pulsing EDM beat, Pink sings of overcoming fear and believing in things unseen.
  • Close your eyes and leave it all behind
Go where love is on our side, it's a trustfall baby

Pink encourages her fans to take a leap of faith to achieve a more fulfilling life. "I feel like life right now - getting out of bed in the morning, having a vagina, dropping your kids off at school, participating in elections - any of it requires so much trust right now," explained the singer to Kelly Clarkson on her talk show. "And I think life is a trust fall and those are the questions you have to ask: what do you fall for and what's worth it?"
  • Pink wrote "Trustfall" with Fred Again and Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid, who are Ed Sheeran's go-to writing partners. Fred Again and McDaid's collaborations with the English star include the singles "Bad Habits," "Shivers," and "The Joker And The Queen."
  • The Georgia Hudson-directed video follows a young woman as she tries to garner the confidence to approach a guy she fancies at a chill house party. Pink sings the song on the rooftop of the "Illusion Hotel" and dances in the middle of a darkened street. Ryan Heffington, who also worked on Sia's "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart" visuals, choreographed the moves.

The video brings a romantic tinge to the song's espousal of stepping out in faith. It brings to life the blend of hope and fear portrayed in the lyrics.
  • "Trustfall" is the title track of Pink's ninth studio album. The RCA Music Group released the song as its second single on January 27, 2023.
  • Pink derived the album title from the initials of each word: Truth, Reflection, Uncertainty, Security, Terror, Faith, Acceptance / Audio city, Letting go, Love. It was Pink's daughter, Willow, who suggested her mom write an acoustic poem. "She thought it might be easier to choose single words than to write five paragraphs of feelings," Pink explained to Apple Music. "I think finding words is my life's work. And it doesn't matter how many you choose - it's always hard, especially when you want to be deeply seen and understood. You see that I couldn't choose between acceptance and audio city."
