Stop Whispering

Album: Pablo Honey (1993)

  • This song is a tribute to the band The Pixies, who were a big influence on Radiohead. The Pixies were known for quiet verses leading into an explosive chorus.
  • One of Radiohead's first songs, this was released as a promo single for college radio stations in the US. This single was mixed by Chris Sheldon with violins and without voices in the middle part or a guitar solo in the end. >>

  • This song, in which Thom Yorke vented his ambivalent feelings towards authority figures, was created when Radiohead were still known as Early On A Friday. According to Q magazine it was hearing Early On A Friday perform this song that persuaded Bryce Edge and Chris Hufford that the band were worth managing. Edge and Hufford have continued to manage Yorke and co since those early days.
  • Co-producer Paul Q Kolderie recalled in Q magazine: "We tinkered with it a bit. It was kind of a sprawling thing and we weren't sure how long it would be."
