Songfacts®:

  • Reba McEntire chose this Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip and Jason Sellers penned tune as the lead single from her twenty-seventh studio album. Dropped on January 6, 2015, it was McEntire's first single for Nash Icon as well as her first release since "Somebody's Chelsea" in 2011. "When you listen to thousands of songs trying to find just the right one to record, a really great song jumps out at you. That's exactly what 'Going Out Like That' did to me!" she said. "It jumped out because it's a great song with up-tempo sassyness (sic)!!!"
  • McEntire noted that her version of the song sounds little different than Akins, Hayslip and Sellers' demo. "The first time I heard it, a man was singing the demo," she said. "When I sang it coming from a female perspective, it became a woman's power anthem!"
  • Reba McEntire described this in press materials as "a party anthem and a woman's anthem of like, I'm not gonna sit back and cry in my Post Toasties, I'm gonna get out and have a good time."
  • The music video was directed by TK McKamy, who has also shot several of Thomas Rhett's clips including the ones for "It Goes Like This," "Make Me Wanna" and "Get Me Some of That." "The video was a lot of fun to make," McEntire told Billboard magazine. "We shot it out in Los Angeles. Basically, I was there for a very short time compared to the way we used to do it, where we would have a four-day shoot. This was a very short and leisurely day, getting to sing a song I absolutely love."
