Songfacts®:

  • In this early Rihanna song, she locks eyes with a guy and makes her move, letting him know what she has in mind.

"It's a very flirty, very naughty song," she told MTV. "I'm basically telling this guy, 'Let me do those things for you...' It's very sexy."
  • "Let Me" wasn't released as a single but became one of Rihanna's most popular songs to perform live. It appears on her debut album, Music Of The Sun, released in 2005 when she was 17.
  • The song was written Makeba Riddick along with the Norwegian production team Stargate. Riddick also worked on Rihanna's second single, "If It's Lovin' That You Want," and later contributed to her hits "Rude Boy" and "Live Your Life."

Stargate went on to producer and co-write Rihanna's hits "Unfaithful" and "Don't Stop the Music."
  • There's a clear Beyoncé/Destiny's Child vibe on this track. The song's co-writer, Makeba Riddick, also worked on Beyoncé's hit "Deja Vu."

Rihanna was signed to Def Jam Records by Jay-Z, who was dating Beyoncé at the time. They got married in 2008 after Jay left the label.
