Born in Auckland, New Zealand, and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Roseanne Chae-young Park, known by her stage name Rosé, is a singer-songwriter who found fame as the lead member of the popular South Korean girl group Blackpink. While the foursome was earning worldwide acclaim with global hits like "Ice Cream" and "Kill This Love," Rosé had her eye on a solo career. In 2021, she debuted with the single album R, led by the electropop track "On The Ground."

After signing with Atlantic Records, she issued her first full-length project, Rosie, in 2024, and teamed up with labelmate Bruno Mars for the pop-punk hit "APT." The single climbed to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, making her the first female K-Pop artist to enter the top 5 on either tally.
Rosé got her start by auditioning for the South Korean company YG Entertainment in 2012 for the chance to become their next K-Pop star. It was her father's idea to do the try out, which took place in Sydney, but she thought he was kidding. Not only were the chances of being picked among 700 other participants unlikely, but the 16-year-old would have to move thousands of miles away to the music agency's home base in Seoul. And she did. After four years of intense training - including singing and dancing, as well as guitar and language lessons - she earned the final spot in the Blackpink lineup in 2016, the same year the group debuted with the single album Square One.
She sang "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz for her winning audition with YG Entertainment.
Rosé's parents had a good reason for encouraging their daughter to leave home in pursuit of her dreams: They couldn't stand her belting out songs at the top of her lungs while they were trying to sleep. "I think I would sing Beyoncé's 'Listen' when I couldn't reach the notes cause I was a terrible singer," she admitted.
Rosé and the other trainees at YG Entertainment had to constantly prove their worth to label boss Yang Hyun-Suk, aka YG. "We would have these tests at the end of every month with YG and we would prepare a dance and song performance as a group and individually," she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2017.

The experience made her extremely disciplined in her work. During the year she was making her debut album, she did nothing outside of working, eating, and sleeping for months on end.
Rosé found the key to keeping her energy up on stage is in her pre-show ritual of eating a traditional Korean meal with rice.
She is left-handed but plays a right-handed guitar.
Rosé has participated in several philanthropic efforts, including raising awareness for the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season and speaking about mental health concerns at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. For her advocacy regarding climate change, in particular, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by King Charles III in 2024.
