• "New Trick" finds Rosé recognizing a broken heart doesn't have to be a permanent condition. Instead of wallowing in old sadness, she kicks the door down and turns her recovery into a celebration.
• Rosé wrote "New Trick" with Amy Allen and Andrew Wells, who also produced the track. The session reunited a creative team she already trusted: Allen co-wrote Rosé's massive Bruno Mars duet "APT.," while Wells worked on her ballad "Stay a Little Longer."
• "New Trick" came together in May 2026 during a whirlwind trip to New York. "This song was written during a hectic week, I think two days after the Met Gala," Rosé told Vogue.   That shift in mindset marked a big turning point. Her 2024 debut album Rosie was heavily introspective, with tracks like "Toxic Till the End" digging deep into loneliness, anxiety, and relationship wreckage. "New Trick" flips the script entirely.
  
  "Ultimately, we successfully wrote something so not sad, and I think it is possibly the cutest thing we've ever made together," Rosé said. "I loved being that girl and channeling that energy in the studio, which felt as if I was channeling that girl into myself. The energy and thrill it was giving me, I was so excited to share that with the world."
• The music video was directed by industry heavyweight Dave Meyers, who previously directed Blackpink's 2025 single " Jump." His resumé also includes visual spectacles for the likes of Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and Sabrina Carpenter.
  
  Filmed on the iPhone 18 Pro, the video was the centerpiece for Apple's "Shot on iPhone" campaign, a franchise that previously featured high-profile visuals like Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love," The Weeknd's "Dancing In The Flames," and Olivia Rodrigo's "Get Him Back!."
• The track's bright, punchy pop-rock groove reminded Rosé of the driving alt-pop songs that routinely soundtracked Apple commercials throughout the 2000s. "I always admired all the incredible videos that were shot on iPhones, and all of Dave's incredible work, growing up," Rosé said.
