Songfacts®:

  • Thorazine is an anti-psychotic drug given to mental patients, and the "Thorazine Shuffle" is a common description of how they move when they're on the drug. In the February 1990 Holland edition of Aardschok/Metal Hammer, lead singer Jon Oliva explained that this was was third part of a trilogy, along with the songs "Mentally Yours" and "Summer's Rain." Said Oliva: "In 'Thorazine Shuffle' Timmy is in an institution and Thorazine is the drug that is given to him to keep him quiet. They're giving him huge dosages and that's why he starts hallucinating. The hallucinations form the major part of the lyrics. And until his dying day Timmy will have to stay in the institution, being the insane person he is thanks to his unhappy childhood." >>>
