Songfacts®:

  • "Another Piece of Meat" is the second song on the album Lovedrive, Scorpions' sixth studio album, and their last with contributions from guitarist Michael Schenker. The lyrics were provided by drummer Herman Rarebell and the music co-penned by Rarebell and Schenker. In the 2016 book German Metal Machine: Scorpions in the '70s, Rarebell explained its lyrical inspiration.

"I wrote 'Another Piece of Meat' in Japan. When I was in Japan, I was with this girl, and she was very much into kickboxing. This is like a different form of boxing that you have in the United States or have here in Europe. Those boxers can kick also with their feet, and most of the time, they fight barehanded or with little bandages around their hands. So therefore, a lot of blood was sitting around everywhere. Suddenly, I thought in my brain, 'Come on, let's go, don't put on a show. It's just another piece, another piece of meat.' And having that line in my head, I had basically the whole lyrics in my head, finished, in about 20 minutes. When we left the next day, I wrote everything down, and I also had the riff in my head [sings guitar riff] - which I wrote on the piano, and transferred it to the guitar, with Rudolf. So he wrote the middle part, and then we had 'Another Piece of Meat.'"
  • The song became a live favorite for the Scorpions. One of their more memorable performances came when they played it at the Reading Festival in 1979.
