Songfacts®:

  • This expansive pop anthem is about the pressure that creatives feel to live up to the expectations of others. Sigrid sings about how she has felt the pressure to be "the next big thing" since she first started her music career. She also sings about how she has doubted herself at times and wondered if she could ever live up to the hype.

"With my artist job, I've sometimes felt that I've tried to live up to myself in a way – but a version of myself that looks like me but cooler, more confident, and touring the world," said Sigrid. "I've probably brought that into my private life, and all those things are what 'The Hype' is about."
  • Sigrid co-wrote and co-produced "The Hype" with Askjell and Nick Hahn.

Norwegian producer and songwriter Askjell previously produced the Sucker Punch track "Sight of You" and the How To Let Go cut "Last to Know." He's also one of Aurora's go-to collaborators.

Welsh songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nic Hahn's other credits include Ive's "Blue Blood," and Sea Girls' "Hometown."
  • "The Hype" marks a milestone in the Norwegian singer-songwriter career, as it is the first song she has a producer credit on. "We've wrapped it in ethereal melodies and bass, synth, and drum-heavy production, but I love how there's so much strength in my vocals," said Sigrid. "There's power in being vulnerable!"
