Songfacts®:

  • "Out Out" is the third single released by UK singer-songwriter Skye Newman. The track plays like a love letter to the way things used to be, back when friendships felt like lifelines and spontaneity didn't require scheduling three weeks in advance.
  • Newman, who grew up in South East London and Kent, moved frequently as a child, and that sense of impermanence shows up in her songwriting. "Out Out" is soaked in that feeling, the ache of growing up, of growing apart, and of realizing that joy once came as easily as stepping out the front door with your friends and no plan at all.
  • The song isn't about one particular night out, but all of them; the nights that blur together in memory as golden, chaotic, and just slightly out of reach. It captures that longing for connection we tend to misplace somewhere between adulthood and bus timetables.
  • Newman co-wrote the track with producers Boo and Luis Navidad, the same duo she collaborated on for her earlier singles "Hairdresser" and "Family Matters."
  • Skye Newman pleads to an unmotivated partner:

Is it really that hard to just love me loudly
    Please, let's not stay home

"Not having solid role models to look up to in the space of men, it's quite hard to then pick the right person," Newman told The Guardian. "I feel like I attract hurt and I attract brokenness. I also fight for things that I shouldn't."
