Songfacts®:

  • Jacksonville, Florida, native Spotemgottem first started rapping when he recorded his raps out of his uncles' studio garage. He broke through with this melodic trap-rap song where he describes how his Draco AK-47 pistol is so loud it can "make a beat box."
  • Released on April 20, 2020 as a standalone single, the song had accrued six million views on YouTube by the time SpotEmGottem dropped the remix on December 18, 2020. The new version, "Beat Box 2," is essentially the same song, apart from an additional verse by Pooh Shiesty.
  • "Beat Box 2" quickly blew up thanks to the #JunebugChallenge on TikTok. Named after its creator, Junebug, the dance challenge involves, according to Complex, participants "flexing both arms while popping your back and walking with a slight limp."
  • DaBaby released his take on "Beat Box" on February 18, 2021, alongside a boastful video in which he performs the song's dance challenge. His version, titled "Beatbox Freestyle," finds him rapping about his happy-go-lucky attitude, success, wealth and women.
  • A week after DaBaby dropped his freestyle, SpotEmGottem incorporated the rapper's verse to his original song, titling it "Beat Box 3."
  • Damn E, a producer from Palm Beach County, Florida, supplied the beat. This is his breakthrough placement.
