Songfacts®:

  • Temper City is a trio comprising vocalist Eytan Peled, keyboardist Chen Kordova, and drummer Aviv Barenholtz. Before stepping into the spotlight themselves, all three had already built respectable careers, writing and producing more than 100 songs for other artists.

After years of commuting between Israel and Los Angeles and collaborating with international acts like Fuerza Regida and Dimitri Vegas, the trio decided to create something of their own. "Self Aware" is Temper City's debut single.
  • "Self Aware" explores the uncomfortable space between physical attraction and emotional honesty. Peled sings about wanting to give in to a romantic moment while simultaneously acknowledging that it isn't going anywhere meaningful. It's the sort of emotional stalemate that has powered pop songs for decades, from The Killers' tortured romanticism in "Mr. Brightside" to Lorde's unflinching self-awareness in "Liability," though rarely with quite so much self-diagnosis.
  • All three members contributed to the lyrics, with Kordova and Barenholtz handling production. The track was released on February 15, 2026, and served as the official launch of Temper City. In the run-up, the band teased snippets on TikTok, building anticipation before the full release.
  • The song's rapid success caught many off guard. It quickly reached #1 on both TikTok's and Spotify's Global Viral 50 charts, prompting some online speculation that Temper City might be an AI-generated act. The band addressed this in interviews filmed in Israel, confirming that they exist in the traditional, carbon-based sense.
  • The music video, co-directed by the band and Tsuf Kazaz, mirrors the song's restless mood. It shifts between a tunnel, the back of a truck, and a desert highway, complete with camels, thought to be filmed somewhere in Israel. The clip was uploaded on Valentine's Day 2026 - a slyly appropriate date for a song about the limits of romantic honesty.
