• It took 28 years, but in 2026 we finally got a new song from the New Radicals, the group known for their 1998 classic "You Get What You Give." That song is "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)," which has a similar feel to their signature hit. Both songs are piano-driven tunes that make you want to stop doomscrolling and make something happen. "Don't you throw your life away," the song admonishes.
• The song was written for the movie One Night Only, a romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner set in a world where premarital sex is illegal except for one designated night a year. The title is mentioned in a refrain, but the lyrics are more about living each day as if it's your last.
• The New Radicals are led by Gregg Alexander, who wrote the song with Danielle Brisebois and her husband, Nick Lashley. Brisebois, who sings on the track and plays the piano, is Alexander's most stalwart collaborator in the New Radicals. She was a child actress, starring as Stephanie in All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place.
• After releasing their 1998 album Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, the New Radicals went dark but Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois both had hits as songwriters: he co-wrote "Murder on the Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor and "The Game Of Love" by Santana. Brisebois co-wrote Natasha Bedingfield's hits "Unwritten" and "Pocketful Of Sunshine." The New Radicals released their own versions of some of the songs Alexander wrote for other artists, but "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)" was their first original song since 1998.
