Songfacts®:

  • "You Are Not Alone" is an ode to kindness. Tom Grennan wrote the introspective piano-based ballad for anybody who's made to feel alone.
  • Grennan's mental health struggles and those of his pals inspired him to write the song. "It's no secret, for a long time I've had to work on my own mental health and I continue to do so daily," Grennan said. "It's been a tough few years for everyone - through the pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis, and when I talk to my friends, everyone's mental health seems to be suffering. It's been rough!"
  • Grennan co-wrote the song with the track's producers, Jamie Scott and Mike Needle. Previous collaborations between Grennan, Scott and Needle include "Little Bit Of Love," "All These Nights" and "Lionheart (Fearless)."
  • Jamie Scott and cellist Rosie Danvers, arranged the string section. Danvers also arranged Sam Fender's Seventeen Going Under track "Get You Down."
