Dream Lover

  • Every night I hope and pray
A dream lover will come my way
A girl to hold in my arms
And know the magic of her charms
    'Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    My own (yeah-yeah)
    I want a dream lover
So I don't have to dream alone

    Dream lover, where are you
With a love, oh, so true
And the hand that I can hold
To feel you near as I grow old
    'Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    My own (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    I want a dream lover
So I don't have to dream alone

    Someday, I don't know how
I hope she'll hear my plea
Some way, I don't know how
She'll bring her love to me

    Dream lover, until then
I'll go to sleep and dream again
That's the only thing to do
Till all my lover's dreams come true
    'Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    My own (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    I want a dream lover
So I don't have to dream alone

    Dream lover, until then
I'll go to sleep and dream again
That's the only thing to do
Till all my lover's dreams come true
    'Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    To call (yeah-yeah, yeah)
    My own (yeah-yeah)
    I want a dream lover
So I don't have to dream alone

Please don't make me dream alone
I beg you don't make me dream alone
No, I don't wanna dream alone

  • Barry from Sauquoit, NySixty years ago today on May 31st, 1959 Bobby Darin performed "Dream Lover" on the CBS-TV Sunday-night musical variety program, 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
At the time "Dream Lover" was at position #3 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, two weeks later it would peak at #2* {for 1 week} and it spent seventeen weeks on the Top 100...
For the two weeks before and the two weeks after peaking at #2, "Dream Lover" was in the #3 position for those four weeks...
And on July 3rd, 1959 "Dream Lover" peaked at #1 {for 4 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Official Top 30 Singles chart...
Between 1958 and 1973 the East Harlem, NY native had forty records on the Hot Top 100 chart; ten made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Mack the Knife", for nine weeks later in 1959...
Mr. Darin, born Walden Robert Cassotto, passed away at the young age of 37 on December 20th, 1973 {died after open heart surgery}...
    May he R.I.P.
    * The week "Dream Lover" was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton, and for the fourth week that "Dream Lover" was at #1 on the U.K. Singles chart, the record at #2 was a covered version of "The Battle of New Orleans" by Lonnie Donegan...
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn August 1, 1980, Glen Campbell and Tanya Tucker performed "Dream Lover" on the NBC-TV network late night musical variety program 'The Midnight Special', they were also the show's co-hosts...
Their covered version would reach #59 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart...
Exactly twenty-one years earlier on August 1st, 1959 Bobby Darin's original version was at #29 on the Top 100, seven weeks earlier it had peaked at #2 {for 1 week}.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyAs stated above, on May 31st, 1959 Bobby Darin performed "Dream Lover" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
At the time the song was at #3 on Billboard's Top 100 chart; eight days later on June 8th, 1959 it would peak at #2* {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for a half-year {26 weeks}...
And on the same 'Sullivan' show he also performed "Mack the Knife", it debut on the Top 100 on August 18th, 1959 and eventually peaked at #1 {for 9 weeks}...

Sadly, both Mr. Darin and Mr. Horton passed away in their thirties; Mr. Darin on December 20th, 1973 at age 37 and Mr. Horton on November 5th, 1960 at age 35...
    May they both R.I.P.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn June 7th 1964, "Dream Lover" by the Paris Sisters entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #100, it stayed on the chart for 4 weeks and peaked at #91...

  • Pierre from Chelsea-upon-gatineau, QcBobby Darin was an extraordinary performer!
  • Coy from Palestine, TxDarin had a near genius IQ and was so talented he did albums (and had hits) of Rock and Roll, Country and Western, Folk, Christmas songs and Big Band Standards. He was also a talented song writer, music publisher and actor.
  • Roman from Barrie, Onyes he was quite a talent for his time; does anyone have any info about the futuristic custom car he had built for himself?
  • John from Mansfield, TxBobby Darin was definitely ahead of his time!!He started out as your typical 50's Teen Idol with"Splish Splash"and"Dream Lover"then ventured into Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra style crooning with"Beyond the Sea"then in the 60's became a Dylanesque Folkie then before his untimely death in 1973 was trying to get back into his"Beyond the Sea"groove again!!
If he was alive today, who knows what he'd be doing??Would he be on the"Golden Oldies Circuit"appearing on PBS Pledge Drive Weeks
or would he be hosting his show at Branson,Missouri??
Would he be jamming with Brian Setzer and the Brian Setzer Orchestra or would he be crooning with Tony Bennett or appearing on"American Idol"??
    One can only wonder!!
  • Marecadtitanic from Oak Lawn, IlMR BOBBY DARIN is a genius. Not only can he sing.
He can also, dance, play multiple instruments, act & generally out-perform any one at any time.
There is no body, today, that can hold a candle to MR BOBBY DARIN today. He simply would blow that candle & artists(?) today off the stage !!!
  • Bob from Comox, B.c., CanadaBobby Darin was not only an accomplished singer/songwriter but a superb actor as well. He was
nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a shell-shocked soldier in the
    1963 film "Captain Newman, M.D."
  • Carrie from Roanoke, VaThis has to be one of the best pop/rock songs of all time. Also one of the saddest...the background vocalists sound like wailing ghosts in the intro. Darin has such a sweet, soulful voice. If I'd been alive in the '50's I probably would've had a crush on him solely based on hearing him sing. He definitely expresses sentiments from another era. Most guys nowadays don't care about finding a soulmate, just the next sex partner. I know I'd like one. Til I find one, I'll just keep listening to this song.
  • Derek from Carmel, InGood song. Good artist.
  • Neville from Perth, Western Australia, Australia:Glen Shorrock, lead singer of the Little River Band, had a big hit with this song in Australia in 1979. :Neville, Perth, Western Australia
