  • This is not the end
    This is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot
    Rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone
    And the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady
    Something empty's within 'em

    We say, "yeah"
With fists flying up in the air
    Like we're holding onto something
    That's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of
    The pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it
    Let it all disappear

Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
    It's out of my control

Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
    All I wanna do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

    Sitting in an empty room
    Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
    I wish it wasn't so

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
    All I wanna do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

    Yeah, yeah
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
Tryna figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I've said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So, picking up the pieces, now where to begin?
The hardest part of ending is starting again

    All I wanna do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

    This is not the end
    This is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot
Rocking every revision (I'm holding on to what I haven't got)
But you listen to the tone
    And the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady
    Something empty's within 'em

    We say, "yeah"
With fists flying up in the air
    Like we're holding onto something
    That's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of (holding on to what I haven't got)
    The pain and the fear

  • Tricia from Topeka To me and I don't know why, but everytime I hear this song I keep thinking about my soul mate whom I lost 16 yrs ago.
  • Jennie from Bridgeport, CtThis song gave me the courage to let go of a relationship that wasn't working and I was afraid to let go.
  • Terri from Santa Clara, CaThis song resonates with me as a grieving parent. Our family grew up with Linkin Park. In fact, this was the first concert we took the boys to. I have struggled with depression & death my whole life. But nothing prepared us for the loss of child. I love the upbeat of this song - it helps get me out of my sad, crying, missing my boy like crazy days!
  • Zero from Nowhere, NjTied with "When They Come For Me" for my fav song off ATS. Chester's voice is AMAZING in this song! I feel I can completely relate to this song. (By the way, could someone on this site please add a "When They Come For Me" songfact if possible? thanx!)
  • Megan from Stevenson, AlOh my! Love this song so much! Awesome!
  • Hal from Fakeville, AkOne of "my" dogs died last weekend. I relate the passage, "Waiting for the end to come, wishing I had strength to stand... this is not what I had planned, it's out of my control..." to his final hours. It's literally dead on. We have near-term plans, like maybe eating and playing, going outside to relieve ourselves, then, suddenly, even that possibility is ripped away from us... And, regarding the rest of the meaning of the song, I envisioned it going backward in time from there, or perhaps being from the perspective of someone else, OR, perhaps being from the perspective of the one who lost the one who just left this world.
  • Fabio from New Orleans, LaBloody beautiful song. It totally describes like my senior year. It's an epic failure. I want to relive this year because it sucks so much. But I gotta focus on my future.
