  • It's close to midnight
And something evil's lurking in the dark
    Under the moonlight
You see a sight that almost stops your heart
    You try to scream
But terror takes the sound before you make it
    You start to freeze
As horror looks you right between the eyes
    You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight, yeah

    Ooh, ooh
    You hear the door slam
And realize there's nowhere left to run
    You feel the cold hand
And wonder if you'll ever see the sun
    You close your eyes
And hope that this is just imagination
    Girl, but all the while
You hear a creature creepin' up behind
    You're out of time

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain't no second chance against the thing with forty eyes, girl
    Thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

    Night creatures call
And the dead start to walk in their masquerade
There's no escaping the jaws of the alien this time (they're open wide)
This is the end of your life, ooh

    They're out to get you
There's demons closin' in on every side
    They will possess you
Unless you change that number on your dial
    Now is the time
For you and I to cuddle close together, yeah
    All through the night
I'll save you from the terror on the screen
    I'll make you see

That this is thriller, thriller night
'Cause I can thrill you more than any ghoul would ever dare try
    Thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, thriller
    Chiller, thriller here tonight
'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
Girl, I can thrill you more than any ghoul would ever dare try
    Thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, thriller, ow

    I'm gonna thrill you tonight
    Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'all's neighborhood (I'm gonna thrill you tonight)
    And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

    I'm gonna thrill you tonight
    Thriller, ooh baby (thriller)
I'm gonna thrill you tonight (thriller night)
    Thriller, all night, oh baby
    I'm gonna thrill you tonight
    Thriller, thriller night (oh baby)
    I'm gonna thrill you tonight
    Thriller, all night (oh baby)
Thriller night, babe (thriller night, babe), ooh

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
    Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist

  • Daphne from Memphis,tnThis is the best Halloween song.
  • Norimori from Anon"The song was five minutes long, and I needed it to be 12 minutes for the video," he said. "So Michael and I went to the recording studio at three in the morning. We walked past the guard - 'Hi, Michael.' 'Hi' - put the tracks in a big suitcase and walked out with them. Then we drove across Hollywood, duped them, and put them back."

What a power move. I love it.

  • Reyos from Windsor, OnThis song wouldn't be the sensation it is without the voice of Vincent Price.
  • Scotty from Cheyenne, WyI'm not the biggest MJ fan, but I do like a number of his songs. But being an historian, I can't help but challenge the assertion that MJ is the greatest ever. He may be as great as any will be, but the phenomena of singing idols goes way back, and there are a number of entertainers who, shall we say, "share the throne" with Michael. The first, of course is Frank Sinatra, then came Elvis, and I have to suggest Freddie Mercury, as he overshadowed his band so much, but jeesh the man had chops and stage presence the equal of MJ. MJ also benefitted from better production methods, distribution and sheer increase in population. Here's a closing much did the end of the Cold War help sell music that would have been banned in communist nations? Sorry, I got carried away. Godspeed!
  • Angela from Denham Springs, LaYes, it does stink, i became a fan 2 days after his death. this song was great probably one of his best right after they dont realy care about us thriller is a song that gets me moving and is well written also well coriagrphed
  • Charlie from Las Vegas, Nvmore specifically, it's in this short story collection from R.L. Stine called 'The Haunting Hour: Chills In The Dead of Night.' it should be the very first story.
  • Charlie from Las Vegas, Nvi don't know about the rest of you guys, but this song kind of reminds me of this R.L. Stine story i read about these two boys who go to a graveyard on Halloween night but end up getting killed by a truck on the way to it.

read the story and you'll see why.
  • John from Dublin, IrelandJackson's date in the video is played by model Ola Ray, a former "Playboy" magazine centerfold (June 1980). Special makeup effects were created by Oscar-winner Rick Baker (who plays the zombie whose arm falls off in the graveyard sequence).
  • Berenlazarus from Oxford, United KingdomWow. The Eagles are a one hit wonder? Last time I checked, they were one of the most successful bands from the 1970s with numerous top selling singles. They had five number one singles and six number one albums on the Billboard charts. Just because the only song Brett knows is "Hotel California" doesn't mean they're a one hit wonder. Far from it. They one of the biggest acts from that era. And the album "Greatest Hits Vol 1" that has traded spots with "Thriller" for the biggest selling album of all time throughout the years doesn't even have "Hotel California" on it, as the song came out in 1976 and the first greatest hits album covers 1971 to 1975. And for myself, I can name a lot more Eagles songs than MJ. Brett from Canada is totally clueless.---------------------------------------original quote"The Eagles? Pffft. He may be screwed up IRL, but Michael Jackson is a brilliant musician, FAR better than some one-hit '70s leftover. (Hotel California was their only song worth listening to twice. And the only one 60% of the population could name.)
    - Brett, Edmonton, Canada"
  • Ashlynn from Singapore, SingaporeThere are exactly 13 footsteps in the beginning of this song.
  • Joadiz from New York, NyI love this song soooo much it's the best MJ is the best dancer/singer and this video is sick I love MJ!!! Peace out MJ and R.I.P!!
  • Jean from Germantown, TnThere's nothing I can say but just Thank you, thank you very much! I enjoyed listening to my favorite songs upon request, and FREE, too? I can hardly believe my luck! Whoever you are, just thank you! May you be richly blessed.
  • San from San Fransisco, CaThis is 1 of 2 songs to have an illustration on the record jacket of Thriller, the other being The Girl Is Mine. This song is about Michael taking his girl to a scary movie. She is scared,so michael tells her "This is thriller night."
  • James from Hudson, FlI didn't discover this song until about a year ago and I can't believe what i missed.
  • Dean from Miami , FlI remember watching this video on MTV when I was 9 and 10 yrs old......This album and video shows just how BIG this man's talent was....There will never be another Michael Jackson....He was special.
  • Tania from Boston, MaMichael is absolutley awesome. what really sucks for me is that i became a fan right after he died. i didn't realize how much of a genius he was, and feel really stupid cause now it's too late. (sigh)does anyone have any good songs to recommend? i'm still beginning to hear his songs, and i must say that Thriller is one of my favorites. man, i wish i was alive in the 80's so i could've encountered his awesome-ness live.
  • Mike from London, United KingdomThis song was not written by Michael Jackson, no it was written by a talented white composer from unfashionable Cleethorpes in England. His name Rod Temperton. I think the Eagles wrote their on songs
  • Theresa from Murfreesboro, TnVincent Price is the genius behind this song.
  • Kevin from Tokyo, JapanWhen Michael was young , his father put on a horrifying mask and crept through his bedroom window and frightened him terribly . The 'lesson' apparently , was to teach him to lock his windows at night . This story comes from his brother Jermane in a 'Larry King' Interview and according to the source , he had nightmares for years thereafter fearing that something would come into his bedroom at night .
  • David from Walla Walla Wa, Wanever thought this would happen, but it has, Farrah was probably as big a fan as he possibly was of her, rip to both of you, any detractors go away!
  • Karen from Manchester, NhWhen this came out, I worked full-time in the music department of a retail store. We received the VHS "The Making of Thriller" and my boss had me play it - continually - for a week (the second it finished, I had to rewind it and start it again), then 3 times a day for a few weeks after that. I got so everloving SICK of the whole video! Over 25 years later, I STILL remember a lot of it, word for word! --------------------------- One funny experience: a group of teenaged girls came in to watch the vid. Their leader was going on and on about what a HUGE fan she was, how she knew EVERYTHING about him, etc. At one point in the video they showed a very early Jackson 5 clip. She saw that and asked me, "Who's that?" It was with rather delicious and malicious pleasure that I informed her that that little boy was MJ! She turned a rather lovely shade of red, and almost made the whole ordeal for me worthwhile.
  • Tony from Boston, MaAmazing song.

And Kyra, last I remember he was raised as one. Whether he still practices today, I don't know. But I am def sure he was raised a Jehovah's Witness
  • Kyra from Pasco, WaMichael Jackson IS NOT a Jehovah's Witness
  • Alec Thorp from Yorktown Heights, NyI was surprised when nobody sang this on the Michael Jackson week on American Idol.
  • Linc from Beaumont, TxMy cousin used to lock us in his closet and turn out all the lights in his room. He would play Triller loudly so we could hear it through the door and then he would fling the door open wearing a wolf mask with glowing red eyes - good times!
  • Jamir from Philadelphia, Vai remember on halloween our music teacher had a surpise for us. she set up the tv for us to watch a short little movie, well little did we know that the movie would actually be THRILLER!
so anyway she turns the movie on and were all excited to watch it now let me tell you i was in the second row right in front of the movie. on that scene were michael turns into a wolve made a boy named peter cry. i could fell my heart stop when that happened i mean i was shaking so much i couldnt top for like a minute, and to make things even crazier i was sitting next to a boy named michael. now this dudue had some big eyes i mean his eyes would be big on a alien (lol) so he's looking at me with his eyes really eerie like and to top that he's making them even bigger! *sigh* they had to send peter out of the room cause it was "so scary!" and from that point on we continued watching the video clip.we start snapping our fingers and start dancing when he sings the first part of thriller when hes walking with the girl. when they stop in fear everybody gasp and me and a girl named christina start laughing hysteriecally. that scene where he turns into a zombie honstley creeped me out. and thats very hard to do (creep me out) cause im a pretty wierd dude. now towards the end when they do that thing were they do they wierd thing with the zombies next were they yank it over to their shoulders was a little funny. i guess micheal felt possed or something and stated dancing the same way they did in the movie and he wasnt even looking at the tv to see how they were doing it. everybody was creeped out, everybody except me im supossed to be the wierdest guy in the class not him meee! anyway when the movie was all over peter was still upset. poor peter he probaly crapped his pants (lol). as we went upstairs into the classroom me tyhler and micheal (the only blacks kids in the class) stood right next to each other and started doing to dance. im always in the middle (tyhler is small michael is tall and im almost as tall as micheal hes about 5'4 im 5'2 im a goth and hes well ... a crpyt or lood or whatever.anyway we started doing the dance and everybody clap and cheered and whatnot and we sat down. the creepiest thing is when i went home to go trick -or-treating i saw all my friends and there like all up and my face i mean hey were like breathing on me their lke saying stuff but i couldnt focus at once and it sounded like this "jf;fhighfdugfudsfguyfdgsfygfsyf" lol. when i came home before i went out to go trick or treating i turned on the radio and my mom was in the bathroom putting some makeup on (not scary makeup just everyday make up) thriller was on. i looked out the window when the guy was doing the crazy laugh and i turned around i though i saw a shadow and i did the weirdest thing. i started laughing with the radio and i enjoyed it. i picked up a blunt object (otherwise known as a knife) and sticked it up in the air and started laughing really loudly. "ok im done now" i said then i walked over to the window and looked out. it wasnt like it was like a scary scene i just did it to be funny but i guess most of you reading must thing that my actions were really weird but i appriciate that but im sorry if i have scared you. SIKE!!!!!!!!!!!1. i never mess with knifes im only 11 years old.omg i tottaly forgot about the song. anyway the song was really great and i really wish micheal could make some better songs and stoop this stuff hes doing now. now that guy is beyond crazy but his music is not really a fan of micheal buthis songs are 50-50.WELL LATER DUDES AND DUDETTES, EMOS AND GOTHS ^,..,^
  • Paige from West Lafayette, Inyou have to admit, he was very cute when he was a teenager, he certianly doesnt look the same, but that's not his fault, people i'll try to use small words: michael jackson was beaten as a child. his father told him he was ugly, that's why he got plasic surgery. his plastic surgeon was bad, so he got vitaligo, which made his skin turn pale. he also got lupus, and has bdd (body dismorphic disorder) which makes him think he is ugly and fat. he's had lots of stuggles througout his life. would pepole just stop picking on him.
    he has feelings too.
  • John from Nashville, TnQuincy Jones admitted that the bass line from "Thriller" was inspired by the bassline of the Rick James #1 r&b hit "Give It To Me Baby".
  • Jennifer Harris from Grand Blanc, MiThe Singing Hands at Michigan School For The deaf and Blind did this with the Michael Jackson dance with Vincent Price narration, the cute guy even had a Dracula cape.
  • Fulu Thompho from Limpopo, South Africathis song is truly scary. never dare to watch the video alone at night
  • Cyberpope from Richmond, CanadaThe group dance scene was performed by thousands of convicts in a prison in the Phillipines.
  • Leah from Brooklyn, NyRegardless of what developed later, THRILLER transcended a mere hit tune and became a phenomenon, one that affected millions of people worldwide. It brought happiness. It's also one of the very few tunes I've ever heard that one can simply never get tired of.
  • Julia from Richmond, Hill, GaI know the whole entire dance to this and as I may say im in a dance crew...he is awesome best dancer eva!! FOO!
  • Cristina from Long Beach, Cathis song is great even the video is kool specially when they do that THRILLER dance this is the 80's fever
  • Mark from Byrdstown, TnI see that Wacho Jacko is needing money so he has repackaged "Thriller" and is trying to sell it over again on the 25th anniversary of its release. So please help him out and go and buy "Thriller" again because everything he's released since the 1980's has pretty much tanked. It's hard to fund all the lawyers that keep the irate parents at bay when youre bankrupt,I guess.
  • Emily from New York, NyTo the person who said that The Beatles can't compare to Michael Jackson: for your information, The Beatles have sold WAY more albums than Michael Jackson, so what exactly do you mean, they can't compare?
  • Anthony from Sydney, AustraliaHEH im 17 and ive never heard of the Eagles until now :O and more then 40 million copies thats not even half what MJ's sold with thriller, its actually 104+ mil counting for thriller and for all his albums/singles he's sold 750+ mil altogether, even look it up on wikipedia or wherever they keep records.

So let me put it this way...
  • Matthew from Milford, MaAnyone up for some Marioween?
  • Michael from Brooklyn, NyWhat's this bullsh*t about Thriller not being the biggest selling album? "The Eagles: Their Greatest Hits" is the biggest selling album IN AMERICA. Worldwide, it's THIRD. AC/DC's "Back in Black" is the 2nd best selling album, while Thriller is FIRST, worldwide. Get the facts straight. Also, I love the music video and the song! Long live zombies!
  • Lalah from Wasilla, AkIn the movie Ferris Bueler's Day off during the parade sequence the group dancing to "Shake It Up Baby" is doing the Thriller Dance. The Thriller dance is also performed in "13 going on 30".
  • Kenneth from Cleveland, Oh Am I the only one who thinks it's silly to compare a greatest hits record to a regular album?Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones put together nine new songs and watched as their work went on to sell over fifty million copies. I guarantee you the media would not compare that to releasing songs that were already hits if the roles were reversed.Even Soundtracks should not be compared to regualr records.
  • Jonathon from Clermont, FlIf Michael Jackson had waited a few more years, he could have recorded the video without makeup...It also would have been scarier than before.
  • Patrick from Tallapoosa, GaThe dance sequence has been parodied several times. Most recently in an episode of the cartoon "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" when Billy befriends an alien that lands on Earth and must eat brains. The entire episode featured a song-and-dance routine, complete with Billy dressed in a zoot suit and dancing with the zombies like Michael Jackson in "Thriller".
  • Brian from Seattle, WaThe "Thriller" album probably only had three million-selling singles. When the RIAA lowered its certification standards in 1989 to 1/2 million for gold and 1 million for platinum, record companies could then up their former gold singles to platinum under the new standard. But Sony only had three of the four gold singles from "Thriller" certified as platinum. "The Girl is Mine" remained gold. Presumably this is because the single did ship a million copies to retailers at the time of release, which earned it its initial gold award, but it did not actually sell a million at retail, and the subsequent returned stock made it ineligible for the new platinum certification many years later.
  • Tom from Vashon, WaI think the Eagles are way better the Michael Jackson. I think he is a pedifile and a creapster. Regardless of that he did write one good song. Altough thriller is worth listening to, I only do as a joke, or to try to break the ice with a really awarkard situation.
The Eagles have some very good songs. The only one of their songs that I have is "Take it to the Limit"
They just take it to the limit a few to many times. Regarldless I will listen to the Eagles over Michael anyday.
  • Karren from Deerfiled, Nhthiller is a great song to dance to
  • Jerry from Diamond Bar, CaGreat song and dance. I'am a comedian and I use it in my closing act as President Bush doing the whole dance number. Also saw it in the film "13 Going 30". It's a show stopper. Very hard work. Thanks Michael!
    -Jerry, Diamond Bar, Ca
  • Sam from Bright, InNo one will ever equal Michael Jackson. Period.
  • Sam from Bright, InDave, Thriller is still the best selling album worldwide. The Eagles Greatest Hits album only surpassed Thriller in the U. S.
  • Sam from Bright, InVincent Price recorded the narration at the end of the song in only two takes, and the lines he read were written in a taxi on the way to the studio.
  • Yuya from Kyoto, JapanPeople, The disclaimer is because MJ didn't want people to think that zombies actually roamed the earth at halloween.
  • Sarah Floyd from Bloomingdale, Ili liked this song because it was scary and it would be good for halloween. and if he didnt make this song then there wont be any good songs for halloween from michael jackson. think about it!!
  • Jeanette from Irvine, Cahahaha. i love how the songfact says that AT THE TIME michael jackson was one of the least frightening people on Earth.
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesThe Eagles Greatest Hits is now officially the best-selling album of all-time worldwide, having overtaken Thriller in 2002, but you can't deny the fact that Thriller was - and still is - one helluva good album!
  • Ken from Louisville, KyRod Temperton wrote this for Michael Jackson because he knoew of Jackson's affinity of cheesy monster or "thriller" movies on television. The song is about a guy trying to "make time" with a girl by having her watch a scary movie on TV with him so she'll get scared and hold on to him.

  • Dawna from Detroit, MiIt is so unfortunate this world we live in. I noticed how most of the folks on here that have negative things to say about Michael seem to have a need to include race as an issue. therefore it makes me believe that because he is a Black man he is wrong. No one is to judge this man except God. Because he is who he is, he is being prosecuted. How do we know for sure these things happened - How do we know evidence wasn't planted ? Micheal spent millions of dollars to save the rainforest that in turn helps us and our future generations squeeze the life from this human tainted planet. Not to mention vast amounts of money on various charities. I cry watching the video "earth song" - This man has talent that is uncomparable and like someone mentioned he has no peers - he is "untouchable" therefore people that do not understand him hide behind their convictions to say he is guilty. - i wouldn't be surprised if he commits suicide, just to have peace - something he has probably never experienced.
  • Nicole from New York, Nyi LOVE thriller because i was one of the dancers it was fun to play in that
  • Lee from Glasgow, ScotlandThe song Thriller and the album of the same title are quite simply a pop masterpiece. It may equal the Eagles US Sales however Thriller has sold more worldwide than theirs. It's worldwide sales are now 57 millon plus.Alot more compared to the Eagles 36 million.Michael is by far the biggest singer ever.He is still the King of Pop with worldwide album sales of 260 million plus.I love Michael and he is 1000% Innocent. He is my hero and people who say bad things about him such as some of the people listed above should take a look at themselves. He is a worldwide superstar and who are they?Pathetic fools who have nothing better to do with there sad little lives. Also Michael paid $47.5 million for the Beatle's songs. They are his. It's not his fault Paul and Ringo were too tight to invest in their own songs.
  • Akash from Abbotsford(use To Be Vancouver, United StatesMICHAEL JACKSON IS A TRUE LEGEND.
THERE WILL NEVER EVER BE SOME ONE AS BIG AS MICHAEL JACKSON AGAIN. Thriller is still the biggest selling album of all time if u want proof go look it up in the Gueiness book of world records 2005 edition. It has sold over 51 million units world wide + 1 that i bought recently. Thriller is a great song. I think it's almost as good as Billie Jean. The Beatles cant even compare to Michael Jackson have they sold 51 million copies worldwide? NO! I dont even think they are really known outside of America, England and Canada Where as MIchael Jackson is known World wide probably like 30 diff countries and thats because he has made music on a higher level than any one that has ever lived so Michael JAckson has no peer ! and when i say NO peer i mean NO PEER !!!
  • Jam Kemal from Lindua, South AfricaThriller is the biggest selling album of alltimes WORLDWIDE!
And Michael Jackson is one of the greatest singer/songwriter/dancer ever hit the planet. A legendary genius.
  • Rob from Hutchinson, KsThe latest CD release includes a Vincent Price "second verse" not included in the original release.
  • Mr Sockmonkey from Newcastle, Englandthe eagles have the biggest selling album of all time in america
thriller is the biggest worldwide and thats all that needs to be said
  • Tara from Chicago, Ilsomebody said that the Eagles and Michael are equally great but they can name more Eagles songs than MJ songs. Well guess what, I can name more MJ songs than the Eagles, so there ya go!
  • Daniela from Zagreb, CroatiaWilfred, go to Africa, China, Brazil, Alaska, Australia, Japan, Russia, Poland, Spain and similar, and ask the people if they know about Michael Jackson! They will know. But I'm not sure if their reaction will be the same if you ask about The Eagles!

Michael Jackson is a living legend with no peer! Period!
  • Wilfred from Melbourne, Australiai shall settle the debate by saying that mj and the eagles are equally as good... but the eagles, i can name many more of their songs than those of mj.
  • Jordan from Kissimmee, FlOne of Michael's greatest hits if not the best.
  • Brett from Edmonton, CanadaThe Eagles? Pffft. He may be screwed up IRL, but Michael Jackson is a brilliant musician, FAR better than some one-hit '70s leftover. (Hotel California was their only song worth listening to twice. And the only one 60% of the population could name.)
  • Cio from Lithonia, Ga"Thriller", the single, became the fourth million selling single from the album. Michael Jackson is the only artist to have four million selling singles from one album! (thanks, Curtis Brantley)
  • Loretta from Sydney, AustraliaThriller has sold over 40 Million copies worldwide, The Eagles Greatest Hits only equalled it's sales in America.
