  • Well, I shuffled through the city on the 4th of July
I had a firecracker waiting to blow
Breakin' like a rocket who was makin' its way
    To the cities of Mexico
Lived in an apartment out on Avenue A
    I had a tar-hut on the corner of 10th
Had myself a lover who was finer than gold
But I've been broken up and busted up since

And love don't play any games with me, anymore
    Like she did before
The world won't wait, so I better shake
That thing right out there through the door
Hell, I still love you, New York

Found myself a picture that would fit in the folds
Of my wallet and it stayed pretty good
Still amazed I didn't lose it on the roof of the place
When I was drunk and I was thinking of you
Every day the children they were singing their tunes
Out on the streets and you could hear from inside
Used to take the subway up to Houston and 3rd
I would wait for you and I'd try to hide

And love won't play any games with me, anymore
If you don't want it to
The world won't wait and I watched you shake
But honey, I don't blame you
Hell, I still love you, New York

I remember Christmas in the blistering cold
In a church on the upper west side
Babe, I stood there singing, I was holding your arm
You were holding my trust like a child
Found a lot of trouble out on Avenue be
But I tried to keep the overhead low
Farewell to the city and the love of my life
At least we left before we had to go

And love won't play any games with me, anymore
If you don't want 'em to
So we better shake this old thing out the door
I'll always be thinkin' of you Writer/s: HANS FLORIAN ZIMMER, WILLIAM ADAMS

  • Gene from Frederick, MdI'm addicted to Ryan Adam's music, the more you listen the more you realize he might be the most underrated singer/songwriter of the last 20 years. Two, Fix It, Peaceful Valley, Please do Not Let Me Go, Nightbirds...all of them and more are so well arrange and so beautifully sung. A ton of his free concerts on internet archive, check it out.
  • Dylan from Port Orange, FlI'm more of a Red Sox fan myself.
  • Eric from Milltown, Inryan adams is great. this song keeps me chill. i have yet to find a song by him i didn't like.
  • Kieran from Essex, EnglandI heard that when a fan requested "Summer of 69" he immediately stopped playing and told the offender to leave the gig but the fan refused so, not wanting to back down, Ryan Adams offered to refund the entry fee
  • Kathryn from Portland , OrApparently Ryan Adams does not respond well when confused with Bryan Adams. At one of his concerts, a confused fan yelled out a request to play "Summer of 69" and Ryan Adams threw a tantrum, destroyed his guitar, and replied, "My name isn't f*cking Bryan Adams!"

Oh well, I guess it would upset me too to be confused with the dude who sang, "Everything I do, I do it for you."
  • Erica from Illinois, IlRyan Adams is the best singer in the universe. His voice is truly amazing, his music is truly amazing...just everything. And "New York, New York" is just such a great true Americana song. I don't think Adams could've done better on this one. And whenever I get down about 9-11, I know I can always play this song. 10 stars to Adams on this one. He couldn't have done better.
