  • When some loud braggart tries to put me down
And says his school is great
    I tell him right away
    Now, what's the matter, buddy
Ain't you heard of my school
It's number one in the state

(Hey, hey! Take it away! Get that ball and fight!)

So be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Just like you would to your girl or guy (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
And let your colors fly (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Be true to your school (rah, rah, rah rah rah)

    I got a letterman's sweater
    With a letter in front
I got for footbal and track
I'm proud to wear it now
    When I cruise around
The other parts of the town
I got my decal in back

So be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Just like you would to your girl or guy (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
And let your colors fly (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
    Be true to your school

(Do it again! Do again! We like it! We like it!)

    (rah, rah, rah rah, rah)

Come Friday, we'll be jacked up on the football game
And I'll be ready to fight
    We're gonna smash 'em now
My girl will be working on her pom-poms now
    And she'll be yelling tonight

So be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Just like you would to your girl or guy (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
Be true to your school now (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
And let your colors fly (rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
    Be true to your school

(Push them back! Push them back! Way back!)

(Rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)
(Rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah) be good now
(Rah rah rah rah, sis boom rah)

  • Howard Luloff from St. Louis Park, MnBe True to Your School is my all time favorite Beach Boys song. It signifies school spirit which has been always important to me since I graduated high school in 1980. The version with The Honeys was used for a while on WCCO Radio's Prep Parade series.
  • Carol Ginder Fresco from Gardena, CaGardena High School, in the South Bay near the Beach Boys' Hawthorne High, also used "Hail Wisconsin" tune in its fight song, "Hail, Gardena" making "Be True to Your School" extremely popular.
  • Jennifur Sun from RamonaBrings back memories of when my oldest brother played High School football and when our senior year we won CIF. All the cheer stuff now is complicated and looks nothing like it did back then. Also a lot of Schools would have had to look really hard for school songs without the On Wisconsin and Notre Dame Fight song to put lyrics to.
  • Joe from Middle Of Nowhere, CaNeedless to say none of the Beach Boys attended Decatur High School in Federal Way, Washington. Otherwise the song would be titled "Screw Your School."
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn December 15th 1963 "Be True To Your School" by the Beach Boys peaked at #6 (for 1 week) on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it had entered the chart on October 27th and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100...
It was the boys' 3rd Top 10 record for the year 1963 (the others were "Surfin' U.S.A." (#3) and "Surfer Girl" (#7)...
The B-side, "In My Room", also charted, it reached #23 and stayed on the Top 100 for 11 weeks...
