Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf

  • Shakin' like the Devil when she lets me go
Got a new place and how it's so much better
Falling over myself, the televisions on
I turn it off and smile
Oh, Jennifer, you know I always tried
    Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf
And I'll drink it by myself
    And I love you endlessly
Darling don't you see I'm not satisfied
    Until I hold you tight
Give me one more chance tonight
And I swear I'll make it right
But you ain't got time for this
And that wreckin' bell is ringin'
    And I'm not satisfied
    Until I hold you

Jennifer, tell me where I stand
And who's that other boy holdin' your hand?
Oh, Jennifer, you know I've always tried
    Before you say goodbye

Leave the bourbon on the shelf
And I'll drink it by myself
And I never liked your hair or those people that you lie with
    And I'm not satisfied
    Until I hold you tight
    And I love you endlessly
Darling don't you see I can't be satisfied
    Until I hold you tight

Leave the bourbon on the shelf
And I'll drink it by myself
    And I love you endlessly
    Darling don't you see
I'm not satisfied Writer/s: BRANDON FLOWERS, DAVE BRENT KEUNING, MARK AUGUST STOERMER, RONNIE JR. VANNUCCI

  • Daniel from KentuckyWell it could be the entire album. http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/blog/why-hot-fuss-by-the-killers-is-about-a-murderous-homosexual-relationship
  • Maya from Vancouver, BcActually Jenny was suffocated and then dumped in the ocean. Likely not a lake because of the lyric 'Well crashing *tides* can hide a guilty girl' because there are no a lot of tidal lakes out there... and also he doesn't kill her in this song, he kills her in Midnight Show.
  • Ty from Denver, CoI love this song, but i don't see where in the song he kills her. I Figured out (This is probably total common sense. Either that or im totally wrong) That the reason for the fight in the firs place was Jenny was cheating on the dude in the song (or he was totally paranoid and thought she was. Best song in the trilogy!
  • Erika from Fox Valley, WiMy feelings are he either suffocated or broke her neck. I'm leaning towards suffocation though based on the line in Midnight Show "I took my baby's breath beneath the chandelier of stars and atmosphere" .... but that doesn't necessarily rule out snapping her neck. I love the trilogy but I think I like "Bourbon" the best.
  • Kylie from Ventura, CaOh,and yeah, Jenny was suffocated and then dumped in a lake.
  • Kylie from Ventura, CaI love this song, and the whole trilogy. That part totally makes me think of a crazy guy too!
  • Joanne from Dundee, United KingdomI love the bit in this song when he sings, 'the televisions on..I turn it off and smile' It just has quite a sinister feel to it, you can imagine a crazed guy doing that, dont you think?!
  • Erica from Portland, MaThe lyrics make sense. "I'm not satidfied until I hold you tight." Brandon *did* suffocate Jenny, right? That's what everyone says. It makes sense with the other two songs.
  • Michaela from Camden, Nj....I disagree, I think it was great. The Killers have always been known to be very versatile and I think they've continued their tradition. I'd rather listen to a diverse band then one who's songs all sound the same any day.
  • Sonia from Melbourne,Kind of a let down, I reckon.
