Songfacts®:

  • This guitar-driven track finds lead singer Luke Hemmings lamenting his individualism. He prefers to get by on his own, but when a loved one calls and he doesn't answer the phone, he realizes he's screwed up. Such behavior is pushing away the best things in his life, leaving the singer with just "me, myself and I."
  • "Me Myself & I" originated with an idea that Jon Bellion (Eminem's "The Monster," Maroon 5's "Memories," Justin Bieber's "Holy") sent to 5 Seconds of Summer. The Aussie band is a big fan of the songwriter, and they immediately connected with it. "So much of what we had been writing lyrically was extremely introspective," said Hemmings, "and this song fit like a puzzle piece with the rest of the album."

The four members of 5SOS ended up finishing the track with Bellion, songwriter Mick Coogan, and producers Jason Evigan and Pete Nappi. They released it as the third single from 5SOS5 on May 11, 2022.
  • The Aussie foursome played their own instruments on the song (Michael Clifford and Luke Hemmings guitar, Calum Hood bass and Ashton Irwin drums). The quartet all contributed keyboards and Jason Evigan played synthesizer.
  • De La Soul, Beyonce and G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha all previously released singles titled "Me Myself & I," and Joan Armatrading did one titled "Me Myself I."
  • The song's theme of living life on your own terms but still not feeling satisfied is a reoccurring one on 5SOS5. Luke Hemmings told The Guardian that much of the album is about romantic relationships and friendships, but is more about "realizing that maybe you don't have as many emotional tools in the tool belt to figure out why they affect you."
