Songfacts®:

  • Ariana Grande first started dating the real estate agent Dalton Gomez in early 2020. The pair quarantined together during the COVID lockdown, and the singer confirmed their romance in the music video for her single with Justin Bieber, "Stuck With U." As they spent time together, Grande became increasingly convinced he was the one, and the pair revealed their engagement in December 2020. Here, Grande compares her belief that Gomez is the right man for her to choosing a car.

No, I don't feel the need to test drive nothin'
    Test drive nothin'
Baby, I'm sold on you, so I don't ever gotta
Test drive nothin', test drive nothin'

Grande doesn't need to organize any test drives, as she is "sold" on Gomez.
  • Grande utilizes a series of auto-erotic come-ons throughout the verses. The singer has form for using cars as sexual metaphors in her songs. For instance, on another Positions track, "Six Thirty," she sings:

Know I be driving you crazy
But I know you love how I whip it
Down like my foot on the gas
  • This is one of five additional tracks included on the Positions deluxe edition, which Grande released on February 19, 2020. Most of the songs on the record are inspired by her relationship with Dalton Gomez, and the additional quintet of tunes continue the double entendres that Grande sprinkles throughout the lyrics.
  • Grande wrote the song with her regular collaborators TBHits, Victoria Monét, Tayla Parx, and Mr. Franks. There are also credits for programming engineer Zachary Foster and Murda Beatz, who is known for his work with Migos and Drake.

Foster, Mr. Franks, TBHits and Murda Beatz produced the bubbling track.
