Songfacts®:

  • "Talk" is Beabadoobee's ode to going out with her boyfriend on a Tuesday night.

We make out, we make out when it's too late
We go out, we go out on a Tuesday

Why Tuesday? Beabadoobee thinks it's the best night to go out as there's "not too much chaos, but just enough to have a good time."
  • Beabadoobee has a love/hate relationship with her boyfriend. She talks about him being "just a bad decision" and "we go together like the gum on my shoes."

"Generally, it's about doing things that aren't necessarily healthy or great for you but you can't help indulging," she said about "Talk." "It's like that unavoidable feeling that you get, you can't get rid of it and you know it's bad but you love it really and it's whatever, so you do it anyway."
  • Beabadoobee wrote "Talk" with her guitarist Jacob Bugden, taking inspiration from the raw, 4-track demo version of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Maps."
  • The Filipino-British singer wrote "Talk" shortly after completing her angst-laden 2020 debut Fake It Flowers. The song's euphoric chorus and witty verses reflect a change of mood. "It's not that deep," Beabadoobee told Apple Music. "I wanted something really catchy in the chorus and something that was easy to understand. It was the first time where I was like, 'Let's take the path of not taking everything so seriously.'"
