Songfacts®:

  • Co-written by Blake Shelton with Jessi Alexander and Josh Osborne, this sexy tune is the only song Shelton penned on Texoma Shore.

The song started off with a simple melody and hook, which Shelton played to Jessi Alexander. She called Josh Osborne, as it reminded her of their co-write "Sangria." A couple of days later, the three got together and penned the tune.
  • The song finds Shelton singing of how his girlfriend Gwen Stefani can't stop turning him on with everything she does.

    Her kisses taste like whiskey
    Burnin' through my veins
She don't know how to miss me
She hits right where she aims

Later, there's a mention of his girlfriend's "Revlon red" lips, a reference to Stefani's ambassadorial work with the Revlon cosmetics brand (and her fondness for the red lip color).
  • Shelton explained in a press release that he began writing the song somewhere around Baton Rouge during some downtime on his tour bus. He brought Alexander and Osborne in to help him develop the idea.

"I was [on my bus] alone, and I had my guitar, started playing a little melody that I was hearing in my head, and next thing you know, I started writing a song. I wrote a verse, then I wrote a chorus, then I realized it was going somewhere, and I felt good about it," he said. "Like I always [have] in the last couple of years I called up my friend Jessi Alexander and said, 'Man, I think I'm onto something and I need somebody way better than me to try to bring this thing home.' She and I and Josh Osborne ended up writing this song."

"I'm super proud of it," Shelton added, "and it's not hard to figure out who this song is about."
  • Alexander told Billboard she especially loves the line, "She must get off on turning me on," explaining, "I thought it was cool to give this girl power over the guy."
