Songfacts®:

  • This is the second single from the American rock trio Crash King's self-titled debut album. Vocalist-keyboardist Tony Beliveau told Artist Direct the story behind the song: "It's a reflection of my experience with girls moving to LA. The names are fictional, but it's like there's the Hollywood girl and then the girl next door. And the girl that you think is the girl next door, she's really not. She's just the same kind of [Hollywood] girl. It's like out with the old and in with the new and who knows where it's going to go. It's about having that feeling that they've got me where they want me and that conflicting feeling of not knowing where it's all going… It's a confusing, sexy song."
Beliveau went on to give a specific example: "There was one experience where I definitely got played by a really beautiful girl and I'd never gotten played before. It just seemed so, 'Ugh, this is just so f--king LA.' Only here would I feel like that would happen to me and [the song] definitely came from somewhat of a negative experience because she had me if she wanted. So now I feel like I'm backing off a little bit more. I'm a little bit more wary of girls in Los Angeles."
