Songfacts®:

  • In 2021, "3 Nights" singer-songwriter Dominic Fike joined the cast of the HBO TV series Euphoria for its second season. He plays Elliot, a friend of the troubled main character Rue (portrayed by Zendaya), who comes between Rue and her transgender girlfriend Jules. Fike performs this emotional ballad in the season finale.
  • Elliot fueled Rue's drug addiction from the moment they met. While Rue tries to clean up her act, Elliot continues his substance abuse but recognizes it negatively affects his friend. In the season 2 finale, Zendaya's newly sober character stops by Elliot's house to forgive him for snitching on her drug addiction to her family, telling him he may have saved her life. His reply comes in the form of "Elliot's Song," which finds Elliot apologizing for exposing her severe drug use. He also admits he's ruined their friendship, but hopes they can pick it up again someday.
  • Zendaya wrote the song with Labrinth, a British singer-songwriter who composes the music for Euphoria. The scene they penned it for is symbolic of Rue and Elliot's diverging paths concerning their drug use. "The scene between Elliot and Rue is really heartbreaking because you also realize that these are two people who are going in very different directions in life," the show's creator Sam Levinson said.
