Dominic Fike grew up in Naples, Florida, a relatively quiet Gulf Coast city better known for beaches and retirement communities than for launching alternative pop stars. Raised in a mixed-heritage family (African-American, Filipino, and Haitian), Fike developed an early interest in music and was teaching himself guitar by around age 10. He often learned songs by ear; particularly tracks by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose blend of funk, rock, and melody would later echo in his genre-mixing style.
As a teenager, Fike became involved with a local rap collective that eventually evolved into Lame Boys ENT (LBE). His loyalty to the group ran deep enough that he tattooed "LBE" on his forehead, permanently marking the crew's influence on his early creative identity.
Fike recorded much of his breakthrough EP, Don't Forget About Me, Demos, while under house arrest following a 2016 arrest for battery of a police officer. After later violating probation by failing a drug test, Fike was sentenced to just under a year in Collier County Jail. During his incarceration, his manager uploaded the EP to SoundCloud, where it gained traction and eventually sparked a major-label bidding war, transforming Fike into a rising industry name while he was still behind bars.
In 2018, Columbia Records signed Fike in a deal reportedly worth around $4 million, a striking figure for an artist who, at the time, had built his reputation largely through online buzz and word-of-mouth attention.
Fike's first major Columbia single, "3 Nights," became a global breakout hit. The track reached the Top 10 in multiple countries and introduced listeners to his signature fusion of alternative hip-hop, indie rock, and pop melody, a stylistic blend that would become his musical calling card.
In 2022, Fike expanded into acting when he joined Season 2 of HBO's Euphoria, playing the character Elliot. His appearance also contributed musically to the show, including performing "Elliot's Song," which he co-wrote with series star Zendaya and producer Labrinth.
Fike launched Geezer Radio on Apple Music, a platform where he shares musical influences, unreleased demos, and in-progress material. The show has served as a preview space for songs such as "White Keys," which he teased there years before its official release.
One of Fike's most recognizable tattoos is a small apple under his right eye. He has offered different explanations for the tattoo over time, describing it both as a tribute to his sister Apollonia and as a spur-of-the-moment decision he made while high.
