"More Than My Hometown" is an introspective tune about a romantic crossroads. We learn at the beginning of the song that Morgan Wallen and his girlfriend grew up together in the same hometown.
Girl, our mamas are best friends and so are we The whole town's rooting for us like the home team Most likely to settle down
However, the two have different dreams in life. While Wallen plans on staying in his hometown, his lady wants something more.
Yeah, you got a wild in your eyes that I just wasn't born with I'm a same gas station cup of coffee in the mornin'
Their two paths are destined to split; she intends to pursue adventure in the big city and he just doesn't want to leave.
But, baby, this might be the last time I get to lay you down 'Cause I can't love you more than my hometown
So Wallen is forced to give a bittersweet send off to his longtime love.
Wallen wrote the song with Michael Hardy, Ernest Keith Smith and Ryan Vojtesak. The same four also co-penned his previous single, "This Bar."
Canadian Joey Moi produced the track. He is best known for helming Florida Georgia Line's first four albums.
Directed by Justin Clough, the video is a heart-strung mini-movie that tells the tale of a young small-town couple. The girl severs the relationship when she goes off to the city to follow her dreams while her lover remains in his hometown. Wallen portrays the young woman's big brother.
