  • In this song, Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox can't deny the passion he feels for his girl. When she looks at him, he melts every time, which is the coolest thing he's ever felt.

Gary LeVox's inspiration was his wife Tara, whom he married in 1999.
  • This was the third single from the second Rascal Flatts album, Melt. The trio's lead singer Gary LeVox penned the song together with Nashville songwriters Neil Thrasher and Wendell Mobley. LeVox recalled: "That was truly enjoyable to write. Neil and Wendell had the melody idea and a chorus idea, and they called me in and we finished it that day. It's a sexy tune. I think a lot of women would like to hear a man say they don't have to do anything special to make him melt."
  • It's usually the lead singer who gets the starring role in the video, but in "I Melt," guitarist Joe Don Rooney is the focus. His love interest is played by the model Christina Auria.

Directors Robert Deaton and George Flanigan filmed the video in Miami, Florida. It raised some eyebrows because we see Rooney's bare butt, and Auria taking a shower in the nude. The band's bass player Jay DeMarcus, a devout Christian, was so upset, he was ready to walk away from the group. "I stormed off of the set because I was very angry that we were gonna put nudity in our video. That is the truth," the singer recalled in a 2020 media event. "I almost quit the band that day because our manager ... did not tell me, and they sprung it on me at the shoot."

However, after seeing the completed video DeMarcus calmed down. "It was tastefully done, and you could go, 'Oh, that's not as bad,'" he said.
  • Rascal Flatts were on the upswing when they released this song. All of their singles from the '00s placed in the Top 20 of the Country chart and also showed up on the Hot 100. They got great promotion from their Disney-owned label, Lyric Street, but they didn't have much control of their music and had to watch as session musicians did most of the work. "I Melt" includes Tim Akers on keyboards and Paul Franklin on steel guitar.
