Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a fictional character named Sir Psycho Sexy, though many see it as an exaggerated version of Anthony Kiedis, the band's lead singer. Sir Psycho Sexy is telling a series of stories of bizarre sexual encounters from over the years.
  • The song is loaded with many sexual innuendoes, but also has its share of less-clever direct phrases (including Kiedis directly saying "Suck My D--k"). The straightforward dirty lyrics are much like the band's 1987 song "Party On Your Pussy."
  • Running 8:17, this is the longest song the Chili Peppers have released on an original album. >>
    Suggestion credit:
Bert - Pueblo, NM, for all above
  • In the documentary Funky Monks, Anthony Kiedis referred to the coda of this song as the "Beatle ending." >>
    Suggestion credit:
    Adrian - Gettysburg, PA
  • Brendan O'Brien played the mellotron on this and on "Breaking the Girl."

  • Xaafalaaf from NetherlandsHaven't been listening to the song for ages, but I seem to appreciate it even more now than when it first came out. It's a superb highlight of an epic album. Lyrics and melody fit together so well and I fully agree: the beetle ending is heavenly. Somehow it feels like it should've been the last track on the album, like the aftertaste that you want to preserve as long as possible after a magnificent dinner.

I keep wondering if "Hello young woman that I love / Pretty punk rock mama that I'm thinking of" refers to Nina Hagen...
  • Luke from London, UkI've recently rediscovered BSSM, I used to play it a lot in my college days. This tune is just so damn good, the lyrics are very tongue in cheek, but like Bobbilyn says, not one to play to your parents! The whole band are at the peak of their powers here. And the 'Beatle ending' is just... heavenly.
  • Anna from Seattle, WaI sensed a Sir Kiedis egomaniathon. The pscho would be psychotic break with reality when AK describes the cop who drops panties when faced with the sheer force or his umm"manhood" . Yeah AK, its your world...everyone else just lives in it. On the otherhand if I ignore the lyrics or imagine they are a forign language, the music itself is incredibly sexy. It's amazing such young horny musicians could communicate sexiness so well instrumentally.

  • Adrian from Gettysburg, PaOne of Frusciante's biggest guitar tributes to Jimi Hendrix is what he plays during the three-minute fadeout to this song.
  • Karin from Plant City, FlI love "SIR PSHCHO SEXY" that's what it is,sexy, dirty and true to every word !! this is my favorite song to totally jam and sing to. i love it....
  • Colleen from Allentown, PaWell... isn't "Song that made us what we are today" the longest track they've cut? It's like 12 minutes

    I like this song ;)
  • Liz from Smallville, KsThis song freaks me out
  • Bobbilyn from Jacksonville, FlDirty lovely song. Can't play it with mom in the car though. RHCP is my favorite band since I was 12 (27 now) getting a RHCP tat this week, but I find that they have been maturing over the last decade, but getting better all the time (Californication and By the Way totally sucked though). The lyrics of this song were totally cool back in 93 when I heard it for the first time but now its just sophomoric. Still love it though, unfortunately I've had 4 copies of this CD and every time this song gets scratched. Dump luck gotta buy it from Itunes.
  • Eddie Moran from Jupiter, AntarticaYo dan that guy was josh killinoghfer one of john's friend who played rhythm guitar one the album and then on tour for stadium arcadium. Sir Psycho Sexy is the best song ever.
  • Maria The Innocent from Orlando, FlMan this one just goes on and on don't it?
  • Dan from Tinley Park, Ilwhile they were playing this song at woodstock 99, a crazed fan somehow makes his way onto the stage and starts dancing, until security dragged him off, there a good close up of it on youtube.
  • Bert from Pueblo, Nmjust on the comment about hot versus hott. maybe the person who wrote hott is a wannabe gangster thinkin' he's a wise guy....(opening line of RHCP's If You Have to Ask)
  • Handah Jane from Grafton, United Stateswooo love this song
    totally awesome lyrics
    go psycho sexy
  • Luke from Manchester, EnglandHot is spelt with one 'T' not two, less of your wannabe gangsta slang spelling and learn your native language (that's my Language we give you - English!!)
  • Tony from Chicago, IlWell this song is absolutely great... another great jam brought to us by the inventors of sexy music... RHCP. Frusciante isn't the highlight of this song, however, as it's dominated by lyrics from Kiedis and the low cut bass by Flea.

very sexy song... gets me horny just hearing it.
  • Michelle from Boston, MaSorry Madalyn, but Flea plays bass. John Frichante plays guitar.
  • Madalyn from Greensburg, Payes first comment! well...the begging to this song is a little much but ..men who know what they want is hott...feas guitar work genius...i love how they start it out like a tale you would hear around a campfire..chours very sexy too and the middle part where it mellows out and then the end where he says "allow me lord to rock out naked" HOTT
