Songfacts®:

  • The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Let Nature Sing project was set up to get birdsong into the UK charts in order to raise awareness of the decline in Britain's birdlife. Adrian Thomas, a birdsong expert, recorded a series of birds singing between 2016 and January 2019. The resulting track, put together by folk artist Sam Lee and Shakespeare's Globe music director Bill Barclay, is two-and-a-half minutes of pure birdsong featuring 25 different threatened and endangered UK birds.
  • "Let Nature Sing" was the first track featuring just birdsong (unless you count The Supremes' hits with Cindy Birdsong) to make the UK charts, debuting at #18 on May 5, 2019.
  • Other tunes that include some birdsong in the mix include "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton, "Birds" by Bic Runga, "Morning Mr. Magpie" by Radiohead and "Unknown Caller" by U2.

Also check out the second CD of Kate Bush's 2005 Aerial album, which is soaked with the sounds of birdsong, especially the title track.
