Songfacts®:

  • While recording Turn Blue in August 2013, Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach finalized his divorce from Stephanie Gonis. Auerbach's emotional state during the end of his marriage fed into his lyrics. This song finds him singing:

The house it burned, but nothing there was mine
We had it all when we were in our prime

Auerbach claimed during the divorce proceedings that Gonis had been suicidal and had attempted to set fire to their house. She insisted the fire was an accident.
