Songfacts®:

  • This song finds The Johnstones vocalist/guitarist Jarek Hardy singing about both coming and leaving this world with a mic in your hand. He told us that the song "is kind of a stand against everyone, it's kind of like a f--k you to everyone who doesn't get it."
Jarek added: "People who don't play music often don't get it. They don't get that it's a passion, that it's your life, and they try and steer you in another direction."
He concluded that it, "is almost like a high school inspirational song to the youth out there. Just saying, We get it."
  • Rather than being about criticism by outside people, the track deals with condemnation from people who are closer. Jarek explained to us: "The song talks about mom and dad going to the office, the principal and everyone saying, You should be a lawyer, you should be a doctor. Like everyone putting all these stigmas on you, when really all you want to do is play music. It's like, Hey, this is what we do. You don't get it, but this is what we do."
